A New JICA Volunteer Dispatched to COM-FSM


On January 13, 2014, FSM Department of Foreign Affairs and the College of Micronesia welcome a new JICA Senior Volunteer to the Federated States of Micronesia, Mrs. Mitsuko Miyai. The Japan International Cooperation Agency has been dispatching JOCV and Senior volunteers to the Federated States of Micronesia since 1989. The aim of the volunteers is to develop better life for the local people and the community mostly in the priority sectors such as Environment, Health, Education, Agriculture & Rural Development, Fisheries, Tourism, and other fields. There are currently twenty-seven volunteers serving in the FSM, including the new Senior Volunteer, who will all serve two years in their respective posts.

Senior Volunteer Mrs. Miyai will be assigned to the Public Health at COM-FSM National Campus as an Instructor. Previously, Mrs. Miyai was the Director of Nursing at the Yokohama Teishin Hospital in Japan for nine years and was also a JICA Senior Volunteer on Nursing Education in the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal from January 2008 – January 2010 and in the Republic of Vanuatu from March 2011 – March 2013.
